Creative Writing Workshop Instructor: Ms. Saltzman Location: Room 105 Dates offered: June 16-20 Time: 9 am -12 pm Entering Grades: 6-12 Class size: 5 min. Fee: $175 The creative writing summer workshop is offered to students who will be entering grades 6 through 12. The class will be divided between middle school and upper school students. The content of the course will be focused on how to apply creative writing devices (imagery, metaphor, showing, and etc.) to all genre of writing (poetry, prose, essay, and etc.). Students will complete a creative piece each day, and will enjoy the experience of collaborative writing and “workshopping.” Fantasy and Science Fiction Writing Camp Instructor: John Trout Location: Room 110 Dates offered: July 21-25 Time: 9am-12pm Entering Grades: 5-10 Class size: 4-10 Fee: $175 Learn the art of crafting tales that stretch the imagination and take you to unexplored and imaginary lands. We will study works by J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, and other well-known authors to discover the “rules” they follow to craft stories that seem real and believable in spite of the fantastic worlds that suround their characters. The Joy of Journaling Instructor: Ms. Ulissey Location: Third Grade Classroom Dates offered: June 16-20 Time: 9am-12pm Entering Grades:3-5 Class size: 10 Fee: $175 Journals and writing utensils will be provided for each child to personalize his or her journal. Children will improve their observation and writing skills as they record their experience of the world around them. $5.00 materials fee per child.
