Lakehill Preparatory School considers performing arts to be an integral component in a child’s education. All students have opportunities for learning experiences in music and drama. Through performance opportunities, students develop self-assurance, cooperative and leadership skills, appreciation for other cultures, and self-esteem. Students are guided toward becoming adults who have respect for and knowledge about the arts. To this end, students are exposed to performances of the highest quality in theater, music, and dance.

In Lower School, music classes meet three times weekly. Students experience a wide range of activities following a Kodaly approach.  A variety of activities allows students to experience beat, pitch discrimination, phrase length, meter, and dynamics while learning to read music. Recorders are introduced during the second semester of third grade, which help students to learn note names. Students perform in at least three programs throughout the year, including Grandparents Day, the Winter Program, and the Spring Fling.
