Fine Arts

In Middle School, all students have opportunities for learning experiences in music, art, and drama. Through these opportunities in the fine arts, students develop self-assurance, cooperative leadership skills, appreciation for other cultures, and self-esteem.

Art courses are designed to develop skills necessary to implement the elements and principles of design in a variety of projects. Students are introduced to a variety of techniques and mediums in each of the areas of drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking.

The overall goal for the Music program is to further student knowledge and appreciation of music. Studies of selected composers are introduced. Music reading and theory skills also help students further their understanding of proper vocal techniques while singing a variety of music from the standard choral repertoire.

As Musical Theater students prepare for their yearly musical, they learn the elements of choreography, solo and choral singing, staging, set and costume design, makeup, publicity, and problem solving. In the Drama class, emphasis is placed on developing creative expression and confidence through participation in individual and group pantomimes, short skits, and improvisations.
