2011-2012 College Profile

Lakehill Preparatory School provides a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum combined with opportunities for personal growth, individual enrichment, and community engagement.  From Kindergarten through high school, every Lakehill student is encouraged to strive, challenged to succeed, and inspired to excel.

The thirty-two members of the Class of 2011 were admitted to more than 100 colleges and universities.  This class will attend 27 different colleges in 14 states with 40% studying in the state of Texas and 60% percent studying out of state.  Eighty-four percent (84%) of the members of this class were awarded scholarships with a four-year value of 3.5 million dollars (an average of over $110,000 per student). 

Four students earned the AP Scholar with Distinction, one student earned AP Scholar with Honor, and five students earned AP Scholar Awards. One student was honored as a National Merit Scholarship winner. Two students were National Merit Scholarship Finalists, one student was a National Achievement Scholarship winner, one student was a National Hispanic Scholar, two students were National Merit Commended Scholars, and three students were National Achievement Outstanding Participants.

Ninety-five (95%) percent of the Class of 2012 have enrolled in at least one Advanced Placement (AP) class during their Upper School career.

Lakehill is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Faculty

The School’s Upper School faculty is comprised of three instructors with Doctoral Degrees, 17 with Masters Degrees, and  20 with five or more years of experience. Lakehill has an overall student to faculty ratio of 10 to 1. The average class size is 16.

A total of 26 units are required for graduation with one unit equivalent to two semesters.

Grading Periods

The academic year is divided into six six-week terms. Semester exams are given at the end of the third and sixth terms in 6th through 12th grades. One unit of credit is given for each course when the student successfully completes one year of work. One-half credit may be given for the successful completion of work in a subject for one semester. Classes meet on a modified block schedule for a total of 250 minutes per week..

Courses are offered in the following academic disciplines:  English, mathematics, science, social studies, technology, foreign language, fine arts, and physical education.

Cumulitive Grade Point Average

The cumulative grade point average is calculated using semester grades. Grades for all high school courses except PE and non-academic electives (i.e., study hall, office aide) will be averaged into the GPA, including those courses that were repeated. Cumulative grade point averages will be rounded to the nearest hundredth.
